Folkets Festival 2027 Returns to Copenhagen
On 15–16 January 2027, Folkets Festival returns to VEGA in Copenhagen for its third edition. Curated by Dreamers’ Circus in collaboration with VEGA, the festival brings together artists and audiences from across the Nordic countries for two days of concerts, dancing, storytelling and musical encounters.
Friday 15 January opens in Lille VEGA with talks and concerts, before Saturday's main programme spreads across Store VEGA, Lille VEGA and Ideal Bar. Alongside concerts by leading Nordic artists, the festival offers a free family concert, Nordic folk dancing, traditional Sønderho dances, jam sessions and late-night festivities.
Among the first artists announced are Danish trio Stundom, who will open Saturday's programme in Store VEGA, and Norway's Valkyrien Allstars, known for their distinctive blend of Norwegian traditional music and contemporary popular music. Further artists will be announced in the lead-up to the festival.
Music and storytelling
The artistic direction for Folkets Festival 2027 takes inspiration from storytelling and its place in Nordic folk music. Songs carry stories of people, places, love, life and death, while instrumental traditions preserve memories of musicians and communities through melodies passed from one generation to another.
Rather than imposing a fixed theme, the festival explores these connections through music, spoken stories, dance and the encounters between performers and audiences.
A festival to take part in
At the heart of Folkets Festival is the belief that folk music is not only something we listen to, but something we participate in. Audiences are encouraged to bring their own instruments and join informal jam sessions throughout VEGA, with a free instrument cloakroom available.
The ambition is to make room for both outstanding artistic experiences and the spontaneous moments that make living musical traditions so special.
Whether travelling from abroad or joining us from Copenhagen, everyone is welcome to take part.
