The Lost Musicians - New Original Soundtrack Out October 16
On 16 October 2026, Dreamers’ Circus release The Lost Musicians (Original Soundtrack), a new album born from the trio's collaboration with Danish contemporary dance company Aaben Dans and inspired by Faroese author William Heinesen's celebrated novel The Lost Musicians.
The music was originally composed for De Fortabte..., a stage production that premiered in Roskilde in 2024. All ten performances sold out, and the production was nominated for a Reumert Award, one of Denmark's leading performing arts honours, in 2025. Bringing together live music, contemporary dance and storytelling, the production offered Dreamers’ Circus an opportunity to explore a different approach to composition.
Set in Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands, Heinesen's novel follows a group of young musicians searching for music, love, freedom and a life beyond the expectations of their surroundings. Music runs through the story as a force capable of bringing people together, opening new possibilities and transforming lives.
These ideas became a starting point for Dreamers’ Circus as they developed the music in close dialogue with the performers, movement, stage space and dramatic narrative. Rather than serving simply as accompaniment, the music became an active part of the storytelling.
From stage performance to soundtrack album
Across 17 tracks, Dreamers’ Circus move between intimacy, playfulness, darkness and drama, expanding their distinctive Nordic musical language into a theatrical and cinematic sound world.
The album features Faroese actor Olaf Johannessen, who narrates four excerpts from Heinesen's novel: Nocturne, Abyss, Reverie and Vigil. These spoken passages create a narrative thread through the recording, with the trio weaving music around and beneath his voice.
The acclaimed Danish vocal ensemble Ars Nova also contributes to the album, extending the musical palette beyond the trio's core instrumentation.
Alongside original music written for the production, the album includes Dreamers’ Circus' interpretations of Franz Schubert's Ständchen and the centuries-old La Folia theme, both incorporated into the world of the story.
What began as music for a live theatrical experience has now taken on a second life. The Lost Musicians retains the atmosphere and narrative character of the original production while allowing the music to stand independently as a complete album.
